Scholars lead Mayfield's Second Annual Festival of Ideas!

Last week, scholars at Mayfield took charge of the second annual Festival of Ideas in Lower School, presenting an array of thought-provoking topics. Ranging from semantics and ethics to forensics and concentration strategies, the scholars captivated their audience with discussions on the state of Britain, gendered toys, and cryptocurrency.

Adding an element of excitement, a special Model United Nations simulation centred around Harry Potter was organised, providing a fun taster session for Year 8 students. The Lower School girls eagerly participated, demonstrating a keen interest in the diverse array of topics presented.

The interactive workshops not only offered a platform for exploration outside the curriculum but also encouraged engagement and exchange of ideas among both presenters and attendees.

Here's what the girls had to say…

“I appreciated being able to work independently to create a presentation on a topic that I was interested in. I enjoyed the academic discussion and different perspectives that I was able to listen to and partake in. I found the Festival of Ideas to be a valuable experience, where I was able to explore ideas outside my subject area.” - Angela, Year 12

“This was my first year of presenting for the Festival of Ideas and it was really fun, as we could be as creative as we liked while learning new things! I look forward to presenting the Festival of Ideas next year.” - Emma, Year 9

“This year was my first year making a presentation for the Festival of Ideas, as I am in Year 9. I really enjoyed working together with my friends to create a presentation. We each made our own slide, which meant while focusing on one main idea, we could be creative and use our interests to change the topic into our own.” - Lucie, Year 9
